Currently based in Atlanta, GA, USA, Nyamwathi Adodoadji is a multi-disciplinary artist that creates through words and music. Her nomadic family hails from the East and West ends of the African continent, and by the time she was nine, she’d made six domestic and international moves. With parents from different cultures and so much migration early in life, questions of identity and existence have always intrigued her.
Through She Speaks Softly she embodies herself and her creative work as she is--soft spoken, yet purposeful, powerful and thoughtful. She illuminates themes of identity, life and culture through words and music, inviting people to tell the truth, ask questions, connect and reflect on life more deeply.
Blending and bending prose, poetry, spoken word and music, her style reflects her kaleidoscope roots, seemingly fractured and disparate, yet when pieced together forming something altogether new. In a world that is increasingly curated, divided, shallow and cynical, through her work she hopes to create a gathering place through which people can pause, be real and, perhaps, find a bit of what’s sacred.
